Report on the Great Backyard Bird Count and the Bird Book Release

The Green Army organized the Great Backyard Bird Count during Feb 12-17, 2016. Dr Antony P.U, the Coordinator of GBBC took the initiatives to organize this drive. The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) organized by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society engages bird watchers of all ages in watching and counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. In India, the Great Backyard Bird Count–India is operational since 2013. The GBBC Campus Bird Count is a coordinated effort to document the birdlife in multiple campuses across India. Outside protected areas like national parks, sanctuaries and reserved forests, campuses in India often contain surprisingly large amounts of important habitat for birds and other wildlife. Many students from the department of Life Sciences actively participated in this. Volunteers of Green Army have compiled a bird identification field guide for the birds found in CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Central campus. This book was also released during GBBC on Feb 17, 2016.
